Dr. Dawn, DVM/Owner

Veterinarian

Dr. Dawn Hanusz is a native of Toledo. After graduating from Central Catholic High School, she attended the University of Findlay, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in the Pre-Veterinary Medicine field. She then pursued her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the Ohio State University. After working in private practices in Ohio and Michigan, she decided to branch out on her own, starting Paws & Claws Animal Hospital in January 2014. She shares her home with her husband, Ethan, 2 dogs, Coal and Ivy, and 5 cats, Smores, Swampy, Stumpy, Voltage, and Louie. She also has 3 grown children, Derrik, Courtney, and Kira. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, crafting, and outdoor adventures.

Dr. Amber Pisle - Veterinarian

Veterinarian

Dr. Amber Pisle is an experienced veterinarian, having been in practice for over 12 years.  Originally from Akron, Ohio, Dr. Pisle spent four years in Maryland obtaining her bachelor’s degree before returning to Ohio to complete her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University. Ultimately she settled in Toledo, Ohio spending a year as an emergency veterinarian before finding her calling in general practice. She specializes in cytology and preventive behavior and takes pride in offering fear-free and low-stress handling for her patients. Dr. Pisle enjoys crafting, training her dog for therapy work, and playing multiple musical instruments. She is a talented writer and has diverse skills, including sabre fencing and spinning yarn from raw fiber. Dr. Pisle shares her home with an English cream Golden Retriever named Ruth Bader Ginsberg Psyduck, her daughter, and her husband.  Her genuine love for animals and dedication to client education make her a cherished member of the community. In both her professional and personal life, Dr. Pisle’s goal is to create a positive impact and build lasting connections with her clients and their beloved pets.

Janelle - Hospital Manager/Veterinary Technician

Janelle has been a significant part of the Paws & Claws family since it opened in January 2014. She started in the Veterinary field in 2002 as an assistant. In 2009, she graduated from Stautzenberger College as a Registered Veterinary Technician. A few years later, she realized her passion for canine massage therapy, and so she went on to become a Certified Canine Massage Therapist. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, hiking, crafting, and baseball with her family: Cody (husband), Xavier (son), and Alyssa (daughter). She also shares her home with her dog Harper.

Summar - Veterinary Technician
Summar, Veterinary Technician

Summar joins the Paws & Claws family for a second time. She did her externship here with us and graduated from Stautzenberger College in 2018. Summar was with us for 1 1/2 – 2 years. She is going to school now for her L/D nursing degree. Passions are taking care of animals and loved ones when needed. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her family Finance Mike, baby boy Michael and 2 cats, Autumn and Marley.

Stacey - Veterinary Technician

Stacey was born and raised in Erie, Michigan, and currently resides in Temperance with her husband, Kevin, 2 dogs (Miggy and Dixie), and 2 cats (Nollie and Paisley). She graduated from Stautzenburger College in 2012 and spent her first 6 years in general practice and the last 5 years in specialty practice. Stacey and her husband are diehard University of Michigan fans and spend many Fall Saturdays at the Big House cheering on the Wolverines! In her spare time, she loves being outside near any body of water, reading, and spending time with her friends and family! Caring for animals has been a passion of hers since she was young, and she couldn’t see herself doing anything else! Stacey is excited to get back into general practice and serve the community she grew up in!

Rosemary - Veterinary Assistant
Rosemary, Veterinary Assistant

Rose is a Michigan native who graduated from the University of Findlay with a bachelor of science in both English Equestrian Studies and Equine Business Management. After graduation, she spent several years riding and training at two barns in North Carolina. Wanting to do more to help animals, she decided to return to school to become a Veterinary Technician. She has a horse named Malcolm and 3 cats ( Coco, Louie & Rasputin). She is an avid shark week enthusiast, and it is her dream to one day move somewhere warm and live by the ocean so she can learn to surf and take her animals on beach adventures.

Rosemary - Veterinary Assistant
Maddy, Veterinary Assistant
Maddy has 7 years of experience as a Certified Veterinarian Assistant. She loves animals but her favorites are cats. She has 4 at home, Qbert, Sabrina, Winnie & Wednesday, and one day hopes to add more! When she is not working, her family keeps her busy. She has a husband, Aaron and two kids Khloe and Connor. Her hobbies include movie-going with her family, painting and scrapbooking.

Alexa, Veterinary Assistant
Alexa is an Ohio native who graduated from Lourdes University with a bachelor of science and chemistry minor. After graduation, she continued to tutor undergrads in the sciences, and to professionally groom cats and dogs. Wanting to do more to help animals, she decided to pivot into veterinary health. She is an avid reader, DIY-er, and has special interest in senior animal care, reflected in her two cats: bouncy old lady Enola Holmes and spicy older redhead Ms Kitty.
Sarah - Veterinary Assistant
Angel, Veterinary Assistant

Angel is from Maumee, Ohio. She graduated from Stautzenberger College in 2020. She’s been working/volunteering/training with animals her whole life. She shares her home with her husband, Conrad, and their four pets: Mazikeen, a shepherd/border collie mix; Suko, a pitbull/boxer mix; and two cats named Spicy Tuna Roll and Squirrely. In her free time, she likes to go on adventures and see the beauty of nature or try out local coffee shops/restaurants. She also loves to write.
